Planning for the Future
About a century ago, workers were inspecting the ceiling rafters in Christ Church’s Great Hall at Oxford. They noticed that the wood was rotting in some critical places—a problem as these massive beams were cut from enormous oak trees that hadn’t grown on campus for centuries. Fortunately, the workers soon learned that just the right oak trees had been planted in a nearby forest 500 years earlier—at the time of the original construction—by men who knew they would be needed someday. It’s probably not a bad idea to plan one’s strength training program with the same measure of prudence and foresight.
