Fit for the Modern World
“I think it would be very wicked indeed to fit a boy for the modern world.”—Evelyn Waugh
Such was the response of the wise, old school master to the newly hired administrator. The old man was being chided for teaching his students virtue and character from classical literature instead of the economic and job skills that his young superior deemed more marketable. Considering what passes for advice in most modern strength training magazines and forums, I, likewise, think it would be wicked indeed to fit a young man for the modern gym.
