WSM Qualifying Heats: Final Scores...

Earlier today the qualifying heats for the 1999 "World's Strongest Man" TV show were completed, and the top two competitors from each of the five groups will move on to the finals. Final scores were as follows. Group 1: Samuelsson, 33; Barr, 27; Onasai, 21 ; Philippi, 21 ; Edwards, 13; Sanguinetto, 10. Group 2: Ahola, 32; Minkwitz, 27; Veoga, 25; de Bruyn, 18; Brooks, 15; Neese, 7. Group 3: Virtanen, 31 ; Karlsen, 22 ; Ross, 21; Pannanen, 18 ; Noga, 17; Badenhorst, 15. Group 4: Girard, 34; Olafsson, 27; Brown, 22; Vagadal, 22; Doerer, 12; Bowers, 9. Group 5: Veneberg, 31; Fekete, 23; Bergmanis, 23; Baskin, 22; Hoffman, 16; Pittuck, 11. The qualifiers were described as "a very, very hard competition," and it was said that "three or four people were very unlucky not to make the final."
