On the coattails of his victory at this weekend's IFSA Dutch Grand Prix, popular strongman Berend Veneberg announced that he will retire after this year's World's Strongest Man competition. Veneberg is a well known competitor on the international strongman circuit, and is a very accomplished powerlifter as well. Veneberg, who won this year's European Strongman Championships, is a seven-time winner of the Dutch powerlifting championships, six-time winner of the Dutch Strongest Man contest, and a powerlifting world championship medalist, among his many accomplishments. Veneberg plans to remain active in the sport after his retirement, and will be working as an IFSA referee.
