Texas is known for being big on big, and when Tanner Merkle (Red Nail ’17, CoC3 ’18) attacked the world record for the CoC (Captains of Crush) No. 4 Silver Bullet Hold, he did in a very big way: he sent the existing 19.44 second world record into orbit with a jaw-dropping performance of 30.98 seconds.
Considering not just that this was Texas, but also that this contest—Show of Hands Armlifting—was organized by no less than Clay Edgin (CTD '12, Red Nail ’04, CoC3 ’03) and Adam Glass (CoC3 ’10) and a former world record holder on the Little Big Horn), the stage was set for, well, big things.
Edgin, known for some off-the-charts grip strength performances himself, had held the world record at 19.44 seconds, also exceeded that mark, but Merkle’s performance blew away anything that had ever been done before, and his new world record for the CoC No. 4 Silver Bullet Hold is official.
