Odd Haugen and rock solid grip performances go together like ham and eggs, but get this: 67-year old Haugen is looking to pull a lifetime personal record on the Apollon’s Axle Double Overhand Deadlift at the APL Armlifting World Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia next month.
Haugen’s official best on this universal test of grip strength is 220 kg, a weight Haugen says he can now “pull any time.”
Feeling strong, Haugen recently loaded up 520 lb. (236 kg) on an Apollon’s Axle that was set to an 18” (standard strongman) height and made the lift.
The current men’s world record on the Apollon’s Axle is 523 lb. (237.5 kg), held by Mike Burke.
