Nader Wins 77s

(Antalya, Turkey) In a big upset, Abbas Nader (QAT) won the 77-kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships today.

Plamen Zhelyazkov (BUL) snatched 165 kg to take the early lead, but quickly ran into trouble in the clean and jerk.  Nader, who was third in the snatch, jerked 202.5 for the gold in both the snatch and the total, bumping Arsen Melikyan (ARM) into the silver medal position on bodyweight. Oleg Perepetchenov (RUS) was third overall, with a 360-kg total, five kilos behind Nader and Melikyan.
