Superheavyweight Viktors Scerbatihs broke the Latvian records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total at the Latvian National Weightlifting Championships. Scerbatihs, who could well be a factor in the hunt for medals in Sydney, snatched 201 kg and cleaned and jerked 250 kg. Fellow Latvian super Raimonds Bergmanis, who is world class strongman as well as a weightlifter, turned in a PR performance with a 190 kg snatch and a 230 kg clean and jerk.
