Making it look effortless, John Garbo sailed through his official attempt and has been certified on the Captains of Crush (CoC) No. 3 gripper.

The 33-year old Ohio police officer said he was inspired by the YouTube video of Magnus Samuelsson closing the Captains of Crush No. 4 gripper, and has been training grippers for about three years.

“I closed the No. 2.5 when I first got it,” John told IronMind, noting that for grip training, it’s “solely grippers, 2 - 3 times per week. I’ll do two warm-up sets with the CoC No. 1 and No. 2, and then 8 -9 singles starting with my No. 3.5 and and [then moving] to my No. 3.”

“I am a police officer and grip has come in handy in tense situations; I am a former Marine, delivery man and farm hand, so grip has been vital throughout my life. I am an avid knife sharpener and I enjoy anything related to old time strongman feats,” John said.
