A drug-free powerlifter, Jake Monroe has been bending for about two years, and proving his success, Monroe has just been certified on the IronMind Red Nail.
“I became curious about steel bending after reading Edward Aston's book "How to Develop a Powerful Grip,’” Monroe told IronMind. “The first time I bent steel, I managed a Blue nail using a reverse bending style.
“I bend twice a week, on Thursday and Sunday. I will typically warm up with sledgehammer levers and fingertip pushups, then go straight into bending. I always use IronMind pads with no rubber bands for 4-6 bends per session. I finish the workout with pinch lifts and holds.
“As a drug-free competitive powerlifter, grip strength is vital, particularly in the deadlift. I have deadlifted 644-lb. in competition in the 198-lb. class, and training with steel bending and grippers has been an important part of my success.
“I am a 32-year-old husband and father of 2 (soon to be 3) children. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in exercise physiology and am employed as a scientific researcher. I have competed in drug-free powerlifting for 8 years and have been training with a special emphasis on grip strength since 2018. I also enjoy birding, hiking and drinking excellent scotch whiskies in my free time,” Monroe said.
Congratulations—it’s official: Jake Monroe has been certified on the IronMind Red Nail, and his name has been added to the Red Nail Roster.
