Houston—With Ilya Ilyin (Kazakhstan) reportedly preparing for the President’s Cup, Alexandr Zaichikov did his country proud by winning the the gold medal for the total in the 105-kg category of the 2015 IWF World Championship.

Also sitting out this competition was Ruslan Nuridinov (Uzbekistan), but once again another lifter from his team stepped up to the challenge: Ian Efremov won the gold medal in the snatch.

With David Bedzhanian (Russia) in gold medal position on the clean and jerk and having one lift remaining, he jumped to 242 kg in a bid to overtake Zaichikov for the overall victory. Bedzhanian had the bar overhead and fought for control of it, but it was not to be.
