IWF Requests Blood Tests...
Dr. Tamas Ajan, General Secretary of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), has requested that national federations participating in the upcoming World Weightlifting Championships allow their athletes to provide a small blood sample, "to prove that their respective competitors do not use HGH and that weightlifting is clean." This blood test for human growth hormone (HGH) is not part of the IWF Antidoping Policy, and thus would be on a voluntary basis, but the request is consistent with the IWF's leadership position in testing for banned substances, in the interest of producing a clean sport.
