Invitations to the 1999 Highland Games World Championships to be held in Pleasanton, California on September 4th and 5th have been finalized. Representing the United States are defending champion Ryan Vierra, along with Karl Dodge, Art McDermott, Don Stewart and Jeff Bain. Pat Hellier (New Zealand), Alistair Gunn (Scotland), Stephen King (Scotland), Matt Sandford (Australia), Harry McDonald (Canada) and Petur Gudmunsson (Iceland) round out the field. Five-time World Champion Jim McGoldrick, who will be a guest of honor at the competition, reviewed the lineup, calling it a "very strong field."
