With only two men's slots up for grabs, the pressure was high at today's U.S. Olympic weightlifting trials. Two of the favorites, Tom Gough and Wes Barnett, bombed in the snatch, so were out of the hunt. Number one ranked Oscar Chaplin III, coming off his superb gold medal performance at the Junior World Championships, made the team, as did Shane Hamman, who brought his lifting to a new level with a PR performance of 187.5/230. Gough and Barnett are alternates. The qualifiers for the women's team remained unchanged: Cheryl Hayworth, Tara Nott, Robin Goad, Cara Heads-Lane.
