In what started off as a three-horse race, Danielyan (ARM) won the superheavyweight category at the European Weightlifting Championships with some impressive lifts. Both Danielyan and Weller (GER) snatched 205, with Scherbatyh (LAT) having to settle for 200 when he missed 206 on his third attempt. Danielyan made 252.5 in the clean and jerk, Weller made 250, and Scherbatyh made 245.

Earlier, Kadir (BUL) won the 105s, with 185/230, edging Dolega (POL), who made 182.5/227.5, on bodyweight. Schichliannikov (RUS) was third, via 185/225.
