Big Surprises Open the IceMan II

With Misha Koklyaev battling the flu and Zydrunas Savickas getting off to a rough start, the IceMan II strongman contest had some open doors today: Estonia’s Rauno Heinla leads and Sweden’s Johannes Arsjo is in second place.

“The day was sunny and only -1 Celsius, which made a perfect start for first three events in IceMan,” Ilkka Kinnunen told IronMind today.

The first event as the Frame Walk.  “The athletes carried a 310-kg Frame for 30 m, and the top three were Johannes Årsjö (10.91 seconds), Rauno Heinla (11.53 seconds), and  Konstantyn Ilin (11.59 seconds),” Kinnunen said.

Making it an even 75 m, Tommi Lotta won the Conan’s Circle (270 kg, 62-m course), followed by Rauno Heinla (70.2 m) and Zydrunas Savickas (64.4 m).

Finishing off the day was the Sauna Barrel Loading: “The athletes loaded four water barrels, ten meters each, to big Sauna Barrel.  The op three were Tomi Lotta (42.42 seconds, Johannes Årsjö (42.54 seconds), Ervin Katona and Rauno Heinla (tied at 43 seconds),” said Kinnunen.

Here are the official top six places and points at the end of the first day:
