Congratulations to Austin Seitter who has just been certified on the IronMind Red Nail, a benchmark steel bend known worldwide since 1995.
Seitter told IronMind, “I’m 28 years old and I’ve been steel bending for about 8 years now. Throughout the years I’ve trained for/competed in a pretty wide variety of strength sports but there’s nothing quite like feeling steel melt in your hands!”
“Seeing that steel bending was an event in a couple WSM [World’s Strongest Man] competitions in the past and looking into the history of the sport all the way back to the circus performer days, I wanted to try it just to see how I stack up against them, if I can replicate their feats, and if not how much work would it take to do so.
“IronMind was my introduction to the more standardized version of bending and even when I first started out I was able to get the Blue Nail with relative ease, but the Red felt unattainable at the time. It’s crazy to think back to that considering they're my warm-up now,” Seitter said.
Saying he trains grip and steel bending once a week, Seitter finishes off his training “by chest crushing some really heavy grippers since my weakest point is the last half inch before completion.”
“I have trained for and competed in a pretty wide variety of strength sports, but nothing has gotten me hooked quite like steel bending. Getting this certification means a lot to me because its a goal I set for myself way back when I first began bending, and to finally get it is pretty awesome.
“Now I've got my eyes on that Gold Nail, and I know I'll take it down soon! It'll be a while before I can certify on it, but I have already managed to kink it!,” Seitter told IronMind.
