Coming off his huge gold medal run at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships, Oscar Chaplin III (USA) said he wants to produce a world record performance in Sydney.
Chaplin turned in a stirring 155/187.5 last week, to win the silver medal in the snatch and the gold medal in both the jerk and the total. Chaplin is the first American ever to win a gold medal in the total at the Junior Worlds, and the last time an American did that at the Men's Worlds was in 1969. Chaplin ended the drought with a dramatic must-have third attempt 187.5 kg clean and jerk, to clinch the title in the 77-kg category. Chaplin is the current leader in the race to represent the US at the Sydney Olympics, where he would like to break the junior world records in his class.
