Rusty Price Wins the Ventura Seaside Highland Games

Ventura, California isn’t just for surfing—the 8th annual Seaside Games were a big draw, with Rusty Price taking top honors among the pros.

The 8th annual Ventura Seaside Highland Games, which is the last Highland Games venue on the Southern California calendar, finished on a high note with more than eighty top amateur athletes going toe to toe for two days of competition.  In the pro ranks, Rusty Price , Ryan Stewart, Lucais MacKay and Andrew Hobson finished on a high note with some personal best to finish of the season also.
 
Brandon Goodman and Dave Garman of the SAAA, who run the Ventura Seaside Highland Games, were very delighted with the number of entrants and also with the novice division which saw a lot of new contenders competing for the first time.
 
In the pro division it was practically a clean sweep for Rusty Price, who was on fire.  Winning the first event, the 22-lb. Braemar stone, proved a breeze with a dominating put of 42’ 2”.  In second place was Ryan Stewart with 38’ 5-½”; MacKay was in third place with 36’ 3” and Hobson was in fourth place with 33’ 8”.

In the 16-lb. open stone, Price notched up a second win with another great performance of 51’ 11”.  In second place was MacKay, this time with a very noble put of 50’ amd Stewart this time was in third place with 47’ 7-¾” and Hobson was in fourth place with 44’.
 
The 56-lb. weight for distance saw Price set a huge personal best with a winning throw of 43’ 2”.  Stewart was in a very respectable second place with 42’ 6”; in third place was Hobson with 41’ 4” and MacKay was in fourth place with 35’ 3-½” .
 
In the 28-lb. weight for distance, it was very close indeed with Stewart pulling out a last round throw for the win with 77’ 1-½”.  In second place was Price with 75’ 1”.  Hobson was in third place with 73’ 4” and MacKay in fourth place with 68’9”½.
 
In the heavy hammer Price added another win with a distance of 103’ 9”.  Stewart was in second place with 96 ’4”, MacKay was in third place with 92’ 4” and Hobson was in fourth place with 92’ 4”.
 
The 16-lb. hammer was won again by Price with a throw of 125’ 9-½”; Stewart was in second place with 114’, Hobson was in third place with 111’ 8” and MacKay was in fourth place with 111’ 5” .
 
The caber (18’ 1” and 111 lb.) was was won by Price with a 12:50; in second place was Stewart, third was MacKay and Hobson was fourth.
 
The final event with the 56-lb. weight over the bar and Hobson won it at a height of 16’.  In second place was Price at 15’, with Stewart in third place at 14’ and MacKay in fourth with 13’.
