Former pro athlete Al Myers “first established the McPherson Highland Games to celebrate the world gathering of the McPherson clan, and a festival was planned for the occasion with a full evening sampler of entertainment that introduced several groups—showcasing for 30 minutes the ancient tradition of Highland Games from piping, dancing and the heavy events,” Francis Brebner told IronMind.

“Such renown Highland Games competitors as Ryan Vierra, Dave Brown and Karl Dodge were invited by Al Myers, which gave the event a great kick start. There were no intentions at the time that it would an annual affair, but it has rapidly grown into one of the best venues in the region
“Co Athletic Director Dave and Diane Glasgow and Larry and Terri Ventress are looking forward to another great games with a field of athletes which will see several classes from amateur A,B,C as well as master’s, women's and 190-lb. class,” Brebner said.
Friday night, Francis Brebner will hold a throwing clinic, so whether you are competing or just want to see what the heavy events feel like, that’s the perfect way to open the weekend at the McPherson Highland Games.
