“Highland Games in Finland are about to get a kick start with a major ranking clinic set for December 3,” IHGF vice president Francis Brebner told IronMind.

“During the 10-hour clinic there will be a program for official rules, along with coached training, and in the evening there will be a ‘ranking competition’ with the traditional events: caber, stone put, weight for height and distance.  As the indoor venue can not facilitate the full throwing of the hammer, only the timing and turns of the hammer with be practiced,” said Brebner.

Brebner, whose credits as a competitor include seven victories at the Caber World Championships, will be the main instructor, with Jyrki Rantanen assisting.  For more details, please check http://www.highlandgames.fi/.

‘The first-ever Finnish National Highland Games Championships are already set in place—the location will be in the park next to Hämeenlinna Castle, and the winner in the Finnish Nationals open class will then have secured a place and travel to the 2012 IHGF World Amateur Highland Games Championships,” Brebner said.

The Finnish Highland Games National Championships will be held in the end of May 2012 which will be filmed for NELONEN PRO–sports channel.
