The IHGF is pleased to announce that this year’s Lightweight Highland Games World Championships (under 200-lb. class) will take place on 8-9 October at the Mountain Home Highland Games, 30 minutes from Boise, Idaho.
The IHGF is very happy to be working with SAAA officials and athletic directors for the Mountain View Highland Games, Polly Pierce Saulls and Chuck McClain. Twelve athletes from around the globe—6 Europe, 3 USA, 1 Canada, and 2 wild cards (1 USA and 1 Europe)—will compete in the standard eight heavy events.
Qualifiers will be determined from the following championships and rankings:
•
the 6 top European athletes from the European Lightweight Highland Games Championships held in Grossgoltern, Germany, 31 July
• the 3 top American athletes from the Lightweight Highland Games National Championships held at the Utah Scottish Festival and Highland Games, Lehi, Utah, 11 June
• the single top-ranked Canadian athlete.
Champions of the Lightweight World Championships have included Jeffrey Thornton, 2011, 2012, 2013; Jacob Nicol 2014; and Scott Farr 2015. Polly Saulls is excited to host the Lightweight World Championships at the Mountain Home Highland Games, working with the IHGF with an eye to making it one of the premier Lightweight Highland Games World Championships to date.
