16-year old Han Rui (Joey) Wang (China/Australia) has been certified on the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper—making it official that he has world-class grip strength.
Wang told IronMind that an Achilles injury led him “to look more into grip training. The first CoC I ever closed was this January on a peak day, when I unofficially credit card set a CoC3 . . . I was surprised.”
As for his training, Wang said, “Monday [is] thick bars and wrist, Wednesday [is] leg and core, Friday [is] crush and pinch. My training is inconsistent and sometimes illogical. I’m just getting some input from many grip athletes and tweaking my plan as I go.“I was born in Beijing, China, my family [im]migrated to Australia when I was still a kid, despite living in both countries I was always considered big, with strength weak above others who are older than me.
“Currently I am a snowboarding coach in Australia and usually work during my school holidays. I enjoy lifting weights for fun and training, and I’ve really come to like grip training. I’ve also been fascinated by the grip community. There are many gripsters who offer suggestions, advice, and equipment without expecting anything in return. It’s a great environment for younger grip athletes to grow.
“I’m not someone who likes to talk big, but I think I can reach closing a CoC 3.5. My journey in grip won’t end as long as I still have the passion for it. We’ll meet again. This isn’t the end.”
Wang thanks and gives credit to his twin brother, Justin, “for filming him throughout his grip journey.”
