David Whitley has another good reason for calling himself Iron Tamer now: he’s just been certified on the IronMind Red Nail, a benchmark short steel bend.

“I saw IronMind nails for the first time in a catalog, probably 1999 or so. My first attempt was a Green Nail given to me by Brett Jones, which I squashed. The Yellow refused to budge though.
“I have been seriously pursuing bending nails and doing other feats of strength for about 5 years, since I first met Dennis Rogers and became a student of his,” said Whitley.
Standing six feet tall and weighing 250 lb., Whitley owns Nashville Kettlebell, in Tennessee.
“I am one of 14 StrongFirst Master Instructors. I am an old time performing strongman. My mentors in this area include Dennis Rogers and Slim The Hammer Man Farman. My goal is to keep the traditions of the old time strongman alive and moving into the future,” Whitley told IronMind.
You did your mentors proud, David—your name has been added to the Red Nail Roster, the official Red Nail certification list—and many thanks to Tim Dial for serving as the referee on your official attempt.
