Gary Taylor said that things went "really, really well" at AFSA's premiere event of the 1999 season.

Taylor, who was the head referee, said Marshall Ennis and he had been primarily responsible for the event details, and he felt that since the events dramatically separated the competitors, it had made for a very exciting contest. Taylor had high praise for the competitors, saying, "The lads competed exceptionally well," and said, overall, "Manfred [Hoeberl, AFSA president] organized a fantastic competition with his partners...so we're all looking forward to Beirut now."
