Lee Moran, who squatted a monstrous 1003 pounds at the 1984 U.S. Senior National Powerlifting Championships, died this weekend of an apparent heart attack. Moran, while best known for this sensational squat, was also an exceptional bench presser, and had a much better deadlift than was commonly recognized. Even after he had retired from competition, Moran never lost his enthusiasm for training and great strength, and even in recent years, he could pinch grip a pair of 45-pound plates (see MILO, Volume 5 - Number 2).
