World Weightlifting Championships: 56-Kg Men

Warsaw, Poland – Reigning World and Olympic Champion Halil Mutlu (Turkey) is still recovering from shoulder surgery, and did not compete, opening the door for Wu Meijin (China).

Wu Meijin swept the golds in the men's 56-kg category , with a 127.5-kg snatch and 160-kg clean and jerk. Yang Chin Yi (Chinese Taipei) edged Jigau (Romania) on body weight for the silver medal. Yang Chin Yi had a rugged evening, taking three attempts to make his opener in both the snatch (125 kg) and the clean and jerk (152.5 kg).  Mutlu is expected to return to competition in next year's European Weightlifting Championships.
